One of my friends sent this link to me: 18 Old-Timey Photos You Won't Believe Weren't Photoshopped.

Number 12 features Teddy Roosevelt riding a moose through a river. A moose!

I think we should resurrect this tradition next presidential election. Candidate to ride the most exotic animals wins!

(Other highlights: a quadricycle with it's own machine gun - just in case traffic gets too intense, I suppose - and a train falling out of a second-story window. Old photos are so awesome.)

Didn't Dukakis try that? Oh, I guess a tank isn't an animal... :-)

See, he should have ridden a zebra or possibly a tiger. Nothing says "I am the manliest candidate!" quite like riding an animal that would happily eat you.

I find #14 on this list interesting because I remember seeing a movie back in middle school featuring this dangerous sport. I can't remember the name of it though. I just remember the main character in the film had a dream of going to Atlantic City and plunging into a pool while riding a horse...weird, huh?

Yay! I found the movie I was referencing about the horse diving:

I remember watching this film in my English class in middle school. :)

We never watched films that exciting in my middle school English classes! Well, we watched a movie about Helen Keller, which I suppose might count...

But mostly it was adaptations of the books we were reading, which were not always edifying.

Oh, and I got your card yesterday! Thank you for the gift cards! My friend Emma had her birthday yesterday, and tomorrow I will be treating her to see Les Miserables. (It's a depressing movie for a birthday, but it's the one she wanted to see.)

We also watched a lot of adaptations of books we were reading. And that's wonderful! :D You're very welcome for the gift cards -- it was my pleasure! :) That's so awesome that you'll be treating Emma to Les Miserables! Have a blast and tell her I said "Happy Birthday!" :D

IIRC, that is a fake photo, though? O____o

It is entirely possible. But I refuse to believe it. if anyone could ride a moose, it WOULD have been Teddy Roosevelt!

Seriously, I imagine the newspaper people being like, "We can mock up a photo of you riding a moose," and Teddy being all "How about I actually RIDE A MOOSE? That would be bully!" And the newspaper people are all "All righty then..."

And then Teddy probably suggested that he could try riding a grizzly bear next.
