endelyn make me want to write drabbles to go with them. Not all of them, perhaps, but still.
To begin: the “Why Vampires Angst All the Time” almost-drabble (it’s fourteen words too long. Be silent).
Going Native
She’d lived among humans so long that she’d changed her name to Jane, so they shouldn’t have been surprised when she greeted them with chitchat about snow.
But it embarrassed Melisandre beyond speaking, and that left Amarande to model social niceties. “Why must I be cursed to live on the lifeblood of innocents?”
Jane squinted. “I guess that must be pretty cold, too?”
“No life knows the agony of the unlife,” said Amarande, reproving.
“Damned to live forever among guilt and pain,” Melisandre added. “How can we speak of mere snow?”
“Oh!” blurted Jane. “Oh. Um. I’m suffering too!”
Faux pas averted, they passed a convivial evening imbibing raw steaks and angsting.

I feel like there should be a way to embed the picture within the text, like an illustration in a book. Hmm.

Also, if you want to read something funny: John Scalzi’s Denise Jones, Super Booker is a blast. It’s a Q&A session with a woman who serves as a liaison between superheroes and cities under attack by aliens and archvillains.
A: Super beings haven’t had day jobs since pagers and Blackberries hit the market. There’s no way you can get away from work anymore. And when Chicago is being attacked by a sewer monster, it doesn’t want to have to wait for ArachnoLad to find some clever way to sneak out of a sales meeting. That’s just stupid.
All kinds of fun.
