What a lot of links to post! First, [livejournal.com profile] goldjadeocean linked me to Librophiliac Love Letter, a post full of photos of libraries to rival Belle's in Beauty and the Beast. Beautiful!

I've been on the icon hunt this evening - you can see one of the fruits of my labors, above; so many beautiful icons in the world, and so few icon spaces to hold them!

I have two favorite icon makers at the moment. [livejournal.com profile] roxicons is responsible for the beautiful swan icon on this entry. Also fairy tale icons, lots of lovely nature icons - I think her autumn icons are particularly lovely, but then I think autumn is the most picturesque season - castles and coffee and kittens...

(Speaking of kittens, [livejournal.com profile] sineala linked me to Written? Kitten!, which is this site where you write in a box and it bequeaths unto you a kitten picture every so many words. Best motivational device ever? Definitely healthier than the candy bar method.)

My other favorite icon maker is [livejournal.com profile] ramblingicons, who I am pretty sure is my brain twin. She also has fairy tale icons, whole swathes of Arthur Rackham and Alphonse Mucha and Cicely Mary Barker icons; and also icons of people on swings, people in the mist, and an entire post of icons of people and windows: thrusting back curtains, sitting in window seats, staring out at the rain and the snow, climbing out...

These icons, it seems to me, call for stories. They are like tiny paintings: their people seem arrested mid-tale, and are only waiting for the rest to be told.

There's something about the tiny size of icons that makes them extra appealing from a story-inspiration point of view, don't you think? Or anyway, appealing. I can imagine a teeny tiny exhibition of icons, put in little tiny frames, hung on shoebox walls.

And a story on the theme of windows--I like the idea.

I think it's because they are so small - there's sometimes a sense that there's a need for expansion, that only a small part of the story has been captured.

Windows, windows! I find pictures of people looking out of windows almost endlessly interesting.
