I've spent the better part of the day de-stressing from a hellish work week by reading every halfway decent sounding fic that passed through my flist, and this is definitely the best of all of them.
The first and third ones are so morbidly hilarious that I want to laugh, but I can't because you turn around and rip Jack apart. I like the way that the females in One and Three are hands on in a sick sort of way, and the men in Two and Four are more academic. And then you turn around and, in true "Five Ways" format, Five is the kick to the gut that brings the reader back to reality.
On the one hand, I want to dislike Annette for her completely selfish response to Jack's situation, but it's so much more effective for the storyline that she flips on him in such a practical way. I actually feel the worst for Jack here because there are no dramatics or great tragedies here, just rejection.
Yeah, no wonder he makes a secret of his immortality.
