Have you read the play? The edition of Mansfield Park I grew up with has the text of Lovers' Vows in the back (and the internet has it too, these days). Once you read the play, which is full of illegitimate children, the HORRIBLE BAD IDEA AWKWARDNESS of the casting becomes really apparent.
