I have a shiny new writing icon! *smiles at it adoringly* This may be my new favorite icon, displacing even the adorable kitten and the magic castle keyhole and the hot air balloons that I’ve never had a chance to use. I ought to post something about balloons and remedy that.

Anyway! So I can use the new icon (and get my thoughts organized): a list of fics that I’m writing, or should be writing, or might write if I can get my act together and/or find a plot.

Wonderfalls

This fic is totally kicking my ass. I don't know why. But it is.

Torchwood

The Awesome Owen-Whore Fic. It's just so enchantingly tawdry. But I have no idea why Ianto is strangely attracted to the idea of rentboy!Owen. Neither does Ianto, but he's not writing a story so he doesn't need to understand.

I also have a completed Jack/Ianto fic (yes, the one you beta'd, [livejournal.com profile] exuberantself). Post-ep to Cyberwoman, because every Torchwood fic writer has to write a post-ep to Cyberwoman. This isn’t posted because, um. It just isn’t? I’m sure there’s a deep and psychologically revealing reason for this.

Speaking of beta-ing--you're supposed to credit your betas, yes?--sorry about that, [livejournal.com profile] sanginmychains. I'm going to add you to the fic header of the finale of T&S, because, um. I forgot earlier. Sorry.

Tamora Pierce

The sort-of Aly/Taybur fic which may be called “Nostalgia,” because Aly should have had at least spurts of homesickness occasionally and she didn’t. Also, because the world needs more Taybur. I have the first scene completed, and an appalling and incomplete draft of the second scene, which needs to offer up an explanation of why it exists and what it’s doing so I can write it.

The Love Triangle of Doom: Taybur/Rubinyan/Imajane. Because it’s just so deliciously twisted, or it would be if I had any idea what to write. It seems to want to be EPIC (by which I mean “more than four thousand words.” Because anything that long will a) fry my brain and b) be terrible. T&S was a fluke). Beyond EPIC, I got nothing.

There are also various random original stories that are floating around in the ether—Bartholomew Bethsaida’s eternity coats, which has an awesome first paragraph (“At the corner of Fourth and Time, Bartholomew Bethsaida runs his tailor's shop: bespoke eternity coats, cheap at the price. Only sell Mr. Bethsaida your death, and he will make you a coat as infinite as oblivion.”) followed by a great gulf of nothing.

I did consider writing an origin story for Jack’s coat here, but that turned into a bloodbath, so I decided it was a bad idea.

There are a number of longer stories too, and I should just take one and start writing it (I would feel better about this if the pirate island with the theocratic revolution novel hadn’t crashed and burned so badly. There’s still a crater in my heart.)

The theocratic revolution story was actually really cool. Or at least it had lots of pieces that could be cobbled into a cool story. (Yay terrible family dynamics!) Maybe I should resurrect it.

This is my current writing icon

Despite knowing you have that icon (and that I don't) I still had a brain-blank moment of "huh? I posted?" Makes me glad I'm not a prolific icon-maker!

Oh, Tamora Pierce fic! There's so little of it about. I keep meaning to pick up a guilty copy of the Wild Magic series for nostalgia purposes.

Looking forwards to seeing some rentboy!Owen, too. ^_^

I think there's actually a lot of TP fic (just look at ffn.net!)--it's just that most of it is bad, which is to be expected in a fandom with lots of thirteen-year-olds.

I actually have some drabbles about Taybur under the fic tag here, and [livejournal.com profile] rain_sleet_snow wrote this wonderful story (http://community.livejournal.com/the_swoop/4457.html#cutid2), where Thom (Alanna's son Thom, not her brother) is explaining Aly to Alan.

I love your icon. It's just so gloriously grammar-nazi.

Oh, I'm so pleased you're writing Taybur!fic - especially the T/R/I fic. I can't wait to read it.

One of my to-do tasks is to watch Torchwood and Doctor Who properly, so I can appreciate the fandom. I'll get there in the end...I'm very bad at keeping track of TV.

And now I have no excuses for not writing T/R/I. Work, muse!

I need to watch Doctor Who too--I keep promising myself I will and then my plans fall to dust. If and when I finally watch it, there will probably be some weeks where this becomes the Doctor Who Reaction Blog, because from what I've read the show is guaranteed to push my buttons.

Cyberwoman was the worst episode of tv ever. And by that I mean bad, but mostly I just cringed at how typically sci-fi it was, since that's really not my thing.
Though I can totally see how writing in something to fill the empty lack of cannon for the jack/inato kiss would be totally necessary.
(See? I watched Torchwood...if only the first season and a little of the second...)

Also the whole idea of that "Awesome Owen-Whore Fic" made me die laughing.

Aaaand wonderfalls- I'm so sorry it's not behaving! Shame on it! ...can I help at all with this? In any way? : P

Cyberwoman isn't quite the worst ever. It has to contend with all of Seventh Heaven and Veronica Mars's "Un-American Graffiti" (Veronica Mars is always exceptional; even when it's bad, it's worse than anyone else). But...yeah, tearful!Ianto is pretty bad.

The second half of season two of TW is way depressing, so you're not missing that much.

I may actually call "The Awesome Owen-Whore Fic" by that title. Because it would make me giggle.

I'm not really sure what would make the Wonderfalls story behave. It has suggested that Jaye's family should go to lunch at the Barrel to discuss What To Do now that her dwelling place has burned down, because the Barrel is apparently the only restaurant in Niagara (and it gets all the principle characters in the same place).

Now I just need to figure out how Eric interprets being kicked out of Jaye's trailer in the middle of a previously very successful game of strip poker.

I have a pen. >

That I use infrequently, sadly enough, but I like it!

All of your fics sound awesome, hee, Tamora Pierce. Also, Mr. Bethsaida should go forth ;).

Mr. Bethsaida! You have been summoned!

Mr. Bethsaida feels that we would be loath to afford his prices, mortal as they are, and ought to content ourselves with the paragraph he magnanimously afforded us.

I'm planning traps for him.

I have loads of icons with no specific purposes and I only use the one. Huh. I really sit around sometimes I wonder how people with 50+ icons ever manage actually manage to post with all the stress of using the perfect little picture.

(I'm all atwitter about the prospect of whore!Owen, but I'm also secretly pleased that I've read an unposted story.)

The only reason I am tempted by the paid accounts is because part of me thinks that, if I had fifty+ icons, I would FINALLY have the perfect icon for every post. And if I had the perfect icon for every post, angels would sing from on high, or something.

I think it's like how some people collect shoes. They want to have shoes that go perfectly with every outfit, and once they've reached that state they will also reach nirvana.

Eventually I'll actually post the story--once I've found a venue--and possibly after I've written something I want to post even less, which will push that story out of the queue or something.

Whore!Owen seems to be a popular favorite. I should tart up his boudoir more so y'all get your moneys worth.

From: [identity profile] exuberantself.livejournal.com
Well, if icons and shoes are analogous, I guess it follows: I own lots of shoes, but the only ones I wear when not at work are the beat up red chucks.

By venue, do you mean a community geared directly toward a kind of anti-OTP Jack/Ianto?

Honestly, whore!Owen sounds like fun, but I'm really just a sucker for any decent Owen fics. There really should be more decent, well, Torchwood fic than there seems to be.

Date: 2008-08-15 12:31 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] osprey-archer.livejournal.com
I don't think it needs to be anti-OTP--the ending is awfully Janto--it just feels odd to join a community to post a single fic, which is silly of me.

Owen fics--I actually have an Owen-centric post-ep to "They Keep Killing Suzie". Because apparently I take pleasure in keeping piles of unposted fic lying around my computer? If you are interested.

Date: 2008-08-15 09:42 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] exuberantself.livejournal.com
I just mean anti-OTP in the sense that they aren't all hearts, stars, and marshmallows.

As far as unposted Owen? I am always interested in well-written Owen. Always.

Date: 2008-08-16 05:56 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] osprey-archer.livejournal.com
Searching the database it looks like there's only one really active Janto community, so it's kind of a moot question.

I could email you the Owen if you like.

I actually waited until I got home from work today instead of replying as soon as woke up so I wouldn't seem too eager.

Yes, yes, emphatically yes please.

...there's a real dearth of quality TW fics.

I am really looking forward to both Taybur fics, and I would love to read anything you do with the immortal jacket story.

What if while in the store your immortality coat falls desperately in love with a sexy pair of red leather immortality pants?? They are bought by two different people and true love is thwarted! Our OTP travel through space and time, always trying to reunite.

From: [identity profile] osprey-archer.livejournal.com
It's a pity we can't have a Taybur Interrogation Session, in which we both sit him down and get Answers so we can finish writing our fics.

Given that pants is a plural word, doesn't coat/pants automatically become an OT3? If not an orgy?

Date: 2008-08-15 01:27 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] anait.livejournal.com
Unfortunately, I suspect that Taybur, with all his training, would resist our attempts at interrogation.

Now you're just messing with me!
