I actually have nothing intelligent to say about book #5, Jan Brett's The Wild Christmas Reindeer. It's on my list because I loved Jan Brett books in general - her troll books are also awesome - and this book in particular, even though I rarely bothered to read it.

How can I love this book so much if I didn't read it? Why bother reading when the illustrations are so glorious as to be complete unto themselves? Jan Brett books often have one story going on in the main text and another contained solely in the illustrations in the margin, and what I love about this book is the marginal story: the elves in all their little workshops, making Christmas toys and gingerbread and candy canes and sweaters, all in loving intricate detail.

I told myself long stories about the lives on those elves. It's the first book I remember making up stories about - except perhaps The Borrowers. What are the first books you remember making up more of?
