Aaaaargh I have the giantest case of the don't wannas. It's the last week of school - the last three and a half days of school! - and I'm hardly going to be seeing my students because they're having parties and other fun stuff (fun stuff, she says darkly) - but I have to be here anyway because I have to fulfill a certain number of hours.

Even if all I'm doing during those hours is twiddling my thumbs while my students slaughter pinatas.

And all I want to do is take long walks to the library - incidentally, the library doesn't have the complete Immortals Quartet; this is why the Tortall posts are on hiatus - and eat chicken salad sandwiches and read The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher, which is a nonfiction book about a real-life great Victorian detective. GREAT VICTORIAN DETECTIVE, people, how can you possibly beat that? I stayed up till nearly midnight reading it because I've lost all sense of proportion.

I suppose I could have brought it to school. It would give me something to do while the students eat cake.

The author keeps referencing all these mid-Victorian sensation novels, and I want to read them all now too. The Woman in White! Lady Audley's Secret! Bleak House! (It's Dickens' 200th birthday this year. I've been meaning to read one of his books. Except it's A MILLION PAGES LONG.) Murder, bigamy, locking inconvenient people up in insane asylums, general gothicness!

Possibly I'll have to entertain myself by writing many, many LJ posts. I have a backlist of things I've been meaning to write about - general Tortall thoughts, more Downton Abbey stuff (Edith! Mary! Convoluted fic ideas about Sybil and Branson!), Fruits Basket, Lisa See's Peony in Love, a bunch of movies (J. Edgar, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Charlie Wilson's War, Stage Beauty...)

Does any of this strike anyone's fancy? PLEASE TELL ME SOMETHING DOES. I AM DYING OF BOREDOM AND NEED DIRECTION.

I'm down with you writing All the LJ Posts. I haven't had a chance to comment on Thomas the evil gay footman post yet, but I loved it. I'd also be down with your writing All the Downton Abbey Fanfics, so.... go to it!

Well, I asked you to use my boredom to your advantage, so you don't need to feel guilty about it!

I vote you write about Furuba, since that's the only one of those I'm familiar with. XD

That is...Fruits Basket, right? *is so slow* I will! I really liked it and now wish to turn into a ridiculously adorable Chinese zodiac animal.

If you could turn into any one of the Chinese Zodiac animals, which would it be? :)

Well, I was born in the year of the dragon, and it would be totally cool to be a dragon - I don't think we ever meet the dragon in the anime, which was sad because I kept looking forward to that.

However, dragons are not fuzzy, which is always sad. So possibly a tiger? Except I'm not very tigerish. Maybe a monkey!

What about you?

I was born in the year of the Rabbit and I must say I think it suits my character in some ways. I would LOVE to be a dragon! That would be so cool! :D I think second and third on my list would be a dog or a horse. I love dogs! :) I imagine living as a horse would be very liberating in some ways (being able to gallop fast through a field, etc.) so that would be interesting.

The weird thing is that Hatori (the doctor of the Sohma family) is the "dragon" technically, though for whatever reason, they made him a sea horse instead (I wonder why?). Maybe the manga would shed more light on this issue? I haven't read the manga but I do know that the horse and rooster characters are left out entirely from the anime, so I'm very, very curious about the original series! I'd love to read it. :)

A monkey or a tiger sounds good! :) It would be fun climbing up trees and stuff. lol

I've been thinking about reading the manga this summer. The local library where I'm at now doesn't have it, but I'll be moving back home in July, so maybe the library there... I'm very curious how the manga compares with the anime.

So am I! :) I own the first four volumes, but nothing past that I'm afraid. I think there are a total of 23 volumes, but at least it's all been released. :) I haven't had much luck in terms of finding manga at the libraries here, but there are plenty of online communities where you can find and share books that may not be available at the library, like bookcrossing.com. Maybe you could find some of the volumes that way. :)

This seems to be the question of the day! Um, I am not sure. I was born in the year of the dragon, and it would be fun to be able to turn into a dragon, but on the other hand dragons are not furry and adorable.

So maybe something furry and adorable. A bunny? A monkey? A tiger?

What about you?

I am a rat, and I think it suits. But I would like to be a horse (even though rat & horse are supposed to be, like, Enemies, capital intended).

(Strangely, Shigure was totes my favorite, even though I am not a dog person, and on paper his character description would totes squick me.)

I so agree about Shigure! I kept having moments where I was like... you and your high school girls, Shigure, I should find this so disturbing, yet I love you. Underneath his ridiculous immature act he's actually the responsible one, and looks after the others without them realizing it because he seems so incapable of looking after anyone.

Have a fun last couple days of school!

You might enjoy [livejournal.com profile] sarahtales's Gothic Tuesday Posts. I certainly did!

It seems like there's a lot of 'Gothicness' going around this year!

I've read some of those! She's always terrifically entertaining and has the peculiar talent of making me want to read every book she writes about, even when the books sound like the exact opposite of books I enjoy reading. She's largely responsible for my renewed interest in reading The Women in White.

Also, gothicness is always fun. I'm in favor of all literary developments that lead to more castles and country houses in fiction.

Hee! I sometimes find this too.

Her powers of persuasion are great! ;)
