Back to the grindstone
May. 18th, 2020 04:47 pmToday was my first day back at work after two months of lockdown. As my usual branch is under renovation, I'm still at the processing center, which is A-okay with me, as the processing center is a closed facility and it's therefore much less likely that someone's going to cough on me.
Back in February, I applied for a position at the processing center, and never heard back, which at this point probably means I didn't get it, although it may have just been entirely lost in the shuffle. It's sort of funny, because I remember in early March I was absolutely on tenterhooks to hear, and then the pandemic hit and the whole job question got downgraded to an occasional "Oh hmm I wonder what's happening with that" blip.
We have to wear masks while we're at work (except for lunch), which is less uncomfortable than I expected - except for my ears, which were sore from the elastic by the end of my four-hour shift. But I've acquired a tie mask (with an octopus pattern!), so I'll try that one on Wednesday and see if it isn't a little easier on the ear front.
I am looking forward to replenishing my stack of library books. I intend to keep a pretty large stock if possible; it would not surprise me at all if we end up back on lockdown and I want to be prepared.
Furthering this theme of preparation, I also did a shopping trip to stock up on dry goods. No luck in the yeast department, but I did score toilet paper. And!!! I went with the secret yearning hope of finding peanut butter Oreos, which are my very favorite Oreos, and was correspondingly crushed to find that the Oreo section had been cleaned out. I mourned all the way down the baking supplies aisle, my grief barely lightened by the acquisition of two different types of sugar and more oatmeal (for crumble topping and no-bake cookies), but then! on the aisle cap!!! I found an Oreo display!!!!
And lo, there were peanut butter Oreos. I took two packages and wafted through the rest of my shopping trip on a wave of transcendental bliss.
