1. Are you an Essential Worker?
No, thank God. It's weird to me that if I were still at my last job (Starbucks barista) I would still be trundling in to work; as much as I love Starbucks, I'm sure we'd all get along fine if it closed and we all had to make our hot beverages at home for a few weeks.
2. How many drinks have you had since the quarantine started?
I got QUITE DRUNK while watching the new Charlie's Angels. Excellent movie! Would recommend! Have discovered that I now get hangovers when I drink to excess, v. displeased.
3. If you have kids, are they driving you nuts?
No kids.
4. What new hobby have you taken up during this?
I've been gently dipping my toes into the waters of yeast bread, but that's not so much a new hobby an an extension of my long-standing baking hobby.
5. How many grocery runs have you done?
One so far, but we do get a box of produce every other week (we signed up for this service long before all this started), so I think that's given us an unfair advantage.
6. What are you spending your stimulus check on?
I for one am hoping to spend it on a fabulous vacation once this is all over.
7. Do you have any special occasions that you will miss during this quarantine?
My brother got married! Also St. Patrick's Day, Easter, various birthday parties, etc., but those will roll around again next year so I'm less fussed about them.
8. Are you keeping your housework done? Ish?
I love the optimism of this question; "keeping" my housework done, as if that was something that was happening before social isolation started. It's probably about as done as it usually is, which means not very.
9. What movie have you watched during this quarantine?
Many! I've posted about most of them, but I still need to write about Unicorn Store and Aristocats. (Robin Hood is next on our Disney animated film rewatch list and I am VERY excited.)
10. What are you streaming with?
Netflix, Disney+, Crunchyroll. I started watching Rozen Maiden: Zuruckspulen and... it feels like the bad fanfic anime of Rozen Maiden and Rozen Maiden: Traumend? The art style is so much less elegant and detailed. I should probably give it a few more episodes, though.
11. 9 months from now is there any chance of you having a baby?
No.
12. What's your go-to quarantine meal?
I feel like I'm actually cooking a wider variety of things, partly because I have all the time in the world to do it (also, nothing feels too terrible when I'm chopping onions), but also because I keep using up all the whatevers (bacon, potatoes, white beans...) and having to move on to the next thing.
I am happy to report that my favorite mail order bacon company was having a bacon sale on five pound packages of bacon, and now I am STOCKED for a weekly bacon-and-pancake brunch every Sunday for... quite some time. The limiting factor may be whether my roommate gets sick of bacon and pancakes. (I would happily eat bacon and pancakes for brunch every Sunday until the end of time, but I realize that not everyone likes to have set meals as much as I do.)
13. Is this whole situation making you paranoid?
Dude, it's not paranoid if they're really out to get you.
14. Has your internet gone out on you during this time?
I feel like this question is inviting ill fate and is better left unanswered.
15. What month do you predict this all ends?
This one, too!
16. First thing you’re gonna do when you get off quarantine?
I for one am really looking forward to the day when I can sit down in a Starbucks and drink a hot chocolate while I write letters again. (I would also like to hug everybody, throw a party to celebrate all the holidays we've missed, hand-deliver a wedding cake to my brother and his wife, and also take a lengthy road trip, but those things will all take some time to plan and therefore probably not be first.)
17. Where do you wish you were right now?
Honestly, I'm pretty happy to be home now. If it weren't for the whole disease thing, it would be nice to be on a trip somewhere, but because the disease is raging, I'm glad to be in my own place.
18. What free-from-quarantine activity are you missing the most?
Oh, this is hard. Probably hanging out with my friends and family. It's really hard to think it might be a year before I can hug my mom again.
19. Have you run out of toilet paper and hand sanitizer?
Not yet! Knock on wood!
20. Do you have enough food to last a month?
I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, but by the end of it we might be reduced to eating the last sad half-sack of barley from the back of the cupboard. If we were lucky there'd be a little salt left to pep it up.
Actually, it probably wouldn't be that grim. In fact, I've been a little surprised to realize just how much food I've got squirreled away. My mother always has loads of non-perishables on hand (I recently discovered that she has secret back-up cupboards in the basement! who knew???), and although I'm not quite as well-stocked, I too always like to have backups of all the non-perishables. This habit has worked out brilliantly this year, A++ would recommend.
