I have tried to do NaNoWriMo at least five times and failed every single time and I firmly expect to fail again this year, but nonetheless!!!! I am giving it another go! WHO IS WITH ME????
This time I have at least taken the precaution of writing a story I've had in my head for nearly a decade, in which Sophia runs into Ashlin, a girl whom she had a passionate! intense! obsessive! very repressed! friendship years ago in seventh grade, until it all fell apart under the weight of their own overwhelming intensity (they are both aspiring artists) and also the fact that neither of them was quite in touch with their own sexuality yet -
But now they meet again! In Florence! (Sophia is there on a class trip with her Renaissance Art 202 class. Ashlin is there???? I don't know yet, but neither does Sophia, so that's fine.) They reconnect! It's awkward at first, but soon they're right back in each other's pockets! Sophia finds herself neglecting her art history friends in order to hang out with Ashlin more, just like she did back in seventh grade! Although Ashlin no longer gets painfully jealous when Sophia hangs out with her other friends, and in fact encourages her to do so, possibly to the point that Sophia thinks Ashlin doesn't like having her around very much?, but Ashlin has decided that their friendship collapsed under the weight of her own (weird, haughty, cat-like) clinginess the first time round and she will not make the same mistake again.
DO THEY REALIZE THAT THEY ARE IN LOVE AND ALSO THAT THEY HAVE GROWN ENOUGH AS PEOPLE THAT THEY ARE CAPABLE OF HAVING A RELATIONSHIP WITHOUT SUFFOCATING EACH OTHER THROUGH THEIR SHEER OBSESSIVE INTENSITY?
The answer is almost certainly yes.
