Caldecott Monday: The House in the Night
Jan. 22nd, 2018 12:35 pmThe House in the Night starts off with a bit of a Goodnight Moon-ish feel: you have the child going to bed, the soothing repetition of objects associated with bedtime, a light and a bed and a book - and then the bird in the book bursts right off the page and the child rides off into the night in a lovely evocation of the power of bedtime stories. Black and white illustrations with occasional touches of yellow - which works beautifully when suddenly the bird and the child are flying among the yellow stars.
