A Friendly Blaze
Feb. 7th, 2016 08:28 amOur fireplace is working again!
I used it last fall, when I was reading The Golden Age of Murder, only for it to give up the ghost halfway through the book. But we’ve had it fixed now, and I spent yesterday evening sitting in front of it reading Heaven to Betsy (which fortuitously arrived through interlibrary loan); only I want to save the Betsy-Tacy books to read before bedtime, so I need to come up with other fireplace appropriate books.
I thought about this a bit, and then I remembered that Hampton Sides (the author whose book on the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. I liked so much) has a book called In the Kingdom of Ice: The Grand and Terrible Polar Voyage of the U.S.S. Jeannette. Nothing says “please read me by the fireplace” like a book of arctic exploration.
