We actually did book repair both Monday and Tuesday this week, so I saved my picture book post for today so I could give you a full and complete report.

I read David Soman and Jacky Davis's Ladybug Girl at the Beach, which is part of the Ladybug Girl series (were picture book series always this popular? The only one I remember growing up with was the Berenstain Bears. And the Frances books). This particular one is about, well, Lulu going to the beach, where she is initially intimidated by the size of the waves, but eventually conquers her fears, at which point the narrative begins calling her ~Ladybug Girl~ (with a special swirly font) because Ladybug Girl is, like, her superhero alter ego, except for conquering typical preschool problems rather than fighting crime.

The story is cute, and the illustrations are lovely. It sounds a bit odd to say that I hope more of the Ladybug Girl books come through mending, as of course that would mean they were in need of repairs... But that just means they've been well-loved, right?

I also really liked Bonny Becker's The Sniffles for Bear, which is about a bear who gets the sniffles and concludes that he is clearly DYING. His mouse friend fails to be appropriately sympathetic. "Can I have your teapot?" he asks Bear, when Bear asks Mouse to write up his will. Bear rears out of bed, appalled by Mouse's failure to take his suffering seriously. It's all pretty funny!

And finally, a fun book with a poorly chosen title: The Pirate of Kindergarten, which has nothing to do with pirates at all. It's about a little girl in kindergarten who has to get an eye-patch to get her double vision corrected, and it's a very cute story, but the eye-patch doesn't show up until the very last page and we don't even get to see the girl's swashbuckling imaginary buccanneering adventures, and basically the title is totally misleading and I feel BETRAYED.

Like seriously. Couldn't there be a fantasy sequence at the end? She climbs the jungle gym and pretends it's the crow's nest of a pirate ship or something? Throw me a bone here. Don't promise me pirates and leave me hanging.
