More Psych stuff.
Sep. 12th, 2011 04:03 pmJust saw "You Can't Handle This Episode," which was sooooo good. I love Juliet and Juliet's brother Ewan, and the last scene - oh Juliet, sweetheart! The honor. The pain!
Also, I am tentatively impressed by the way the writers handled the season's biggest narrative dead end, a.k.a. Shawn and Abigail's vaguely cute yet inexplicable relationship. No demonizing Abigail - I was really afraid they were going to take that road when Shawn started making comments about clinginess, but as it turns out she has good reason to call, so the joke's on him.
And no fireworks. It's just that neither Shawn nor Abigail are committed to the relationship above and beyond all other things in their lives, and they've reached a point where they need to be for it to work. Finis. Hopefully the writers will take graceful advantage of this opportunity and let the relationship fade away.

Also, I have a theory about Shawn and Juliet's relationship. Shawn still doesn't quite understand that he can have a friend who is a girl, who isn't his girlfriend. As he's very fond of Juliet, and feels possessive of her (as possessive, let us note, as he is of Gus), he assumes that he must be in love.
Except in moments of clarity he knows that he isn't, which is perplexing. As Shawn is not the introspective type, he lets things drift along perplexingly rather than try to figure them out.
And Juliet has a little bit of a crush on him (who can blame her, he's Shawn), but not strongly enough that it would demand any action - except that Shawn keeps sending out mixed signals, drat him, so it won't just fall dormant.
And thus, the frustrating inconclusiveness of their relationship.
(Do I think the writers are actually going here? No. But perhaps if I can keep this explanation in mind I will not feel the need to shriek whenever the show gets its Shawn/Juliet on.)
