You guys you guys YOU GUYS, Miyazaki is making a Borrowers film! I've loooooooooved the Borrowers since I was a wee little child, and I love Miyazaki films, and this has the potential to be the BEST THING EVER!

(And it may finally wash the putrid taste of the horrible, horrible live-action Borrowers film some ridiculous person made a few years back. OH THE PAIN.)

I learned of this development while watching the previews for the new Muppet movie. It had the best previews. One for Brave, which seems like a less inventive story than I expect from Pixar, but we'll see when it comes out; and another for Mirror Mirror, which stars Julia Roberts as Evil Queen in Snow White.

Presumably there's also a Snow White bopping around somewhere. But the preview was all Julia Roberts all the time, and I am just fine with that.

And the Muppet movie itself? It was cute. Didn't blow me away like Muppet Treasure Island, but it wasn't a waste of money.

What did blow me away? NEW WATERFORD GIRL. AWESOME MOVIE. I must write a post extolling it.

I want to see Mirror Mirror mostly because it looks pretty (you've seen The Fall, RIGHT?)

Of course I've seen The Fall! It had Lee Pace in it! And was all colorful and stuff.

The Borrowers were the best books. My mom read them to me when I was tiny, and when I went to kindergarten I pretended there were tiny people living in the walls. I worried about what they ate in summer.

YES! Did you read The Littles, as well?

OBVIOUSLY. The Littles were not quite as amazing as the Borrowers, though. They never get Seen or have to run away and live among the wildflowers or do anything particularly dangerous, really.

Also, the Borrowers were Victorian. Or at least Edwardian. This may be one of the reasons for my lifelong obsession with Victoriana.

I was so turned off by the Mirror, Mirror preview, but I don't have much taste for the absurd. But the iTunes version definitely has a lot of Snow White in it.

New Waterford Girl is amazing. My children's lit prof used it as an example of how female characters can use social structures meant to dictate and enforce conformity to break the rules and find their own freedom.

YES. When Moonie came up with her escape plan I started hopping up and down because THE BRILLIANCE.

At least, I started hopping once I realized that she only meant to fake getting pregnant. Not that it would make any sense for her to actually get pregnant, but sometimes characters do dumb things.
