This isn't actually surprising, given that a school bears a close resemblance to a petri dish, but I am nonetheless shocked and appalled to discover that I've developed a sore throat. Anguish! Woe! Already! This is a sign of dark days to come.

On a brighter note! I finally got to be a book fairy! One of my students had a five point increase so he got to pick a book, and took Zombies Don't Play Soccer. "For the soccer or the zombies?" I asked.

"The zombies!" he said, as if it were obvious. Clearly a sterling young man!

I also had a girl pick a Bunnicula book because there was a cat on the cover. I think she's going to get a bit of a surprise when she reads it.

One of the kids in my class last year really liked that series.

I was totally into Bailey School Kids in my time, too. But now I can't remember them at all! And not in the way I can't remember things like The Babysitter's Club, where I've forgotten most of the plots but remember the characters alarming well; I don't remember anything about Bailey School Kids!

Why would someone pick a book about soccer that doesn't have zombies?

Actually, I should make that a personal requirement for things worth reading: zombie? yes=proceed; no=wait for &zombies! edition.

Do any other undead creatures get a pass, or is it going to be all zombies all the time from now on? Because I feel like the vampires might deserve some love.

I think I could make exceptions on a case-by-case basis. For example, I would be willing to except a werewolf book after a series of acceptable reviews. Or, alternately, a work by an author who has written acceptable zombies in the past (see: Jonathan Maberry). As far as vampires, they are acceptable, but would require a strict adherence to the sparkle test.
