parallelsfic?? It's a sort of summer Yuletide for rare Asian fandoms - mostly anime and manga, but there are a few Bollywood films and Chinese and Korean movies and dramas (and Tang Dynasty RPF. I guess it's up there with Borgia RPF), and it looks like it will be super cool if only a few more people will sign up. You know you want to!
Anyway! This is my sign-up letter. Fandoms: Dostana, Shimotsuma Monogatari (a.k.a. Kamikaze Girls), Wake Up Sid, and Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (a.k.a. Spirited Away).
Dear Writer,
Thank you so much for writing for me! I'm sure I'll love whatever you come up with, but if you want a little more guidance than that, I’ve made some helpful lists.
Things I like
• Witty dialogue
• Angst leavened by humor, or humor leavened by angst
• Characters who love each other, even if they can’t love each other in the right way to be together
• Bittersweet or happy endings.
• A sense of setting or atmosphere; I like to be able to feel the places where the characters are.
Things I dislike:
• Character bashing.
• Character death.
I'm also chill with gen, het, slash, and femslash, although I'm interested in the emotional twists of the relationship rather than the sex - I don't want anything more than PG-13.
For my specific fandoms:
Dostana
I love this movie extravagantly. I adore Neha, who is awesome at her job and confident in herself ("Why yes," her dancing says, during the song Desi Girl, "I am the hottest girl in the world) and also so sweet and genuine. Sammeer and Kunal are delightful too, and each of their romances with Neha - beautiful. They work so well together; they are so proud of each other; they have so much fun together. Beautiful.
Basically, they're my OT3. I'd love to see them all realize that they're totally in love with each other, now that everything is out in the open. (Maybe Abhi will take a sweet new job at a fashion magazine in Paris. I like the guy, but he's totally in the way.) Maybe Neha can repay them for the wonderful dates they took her on (amusement park! At night!) with some amazing plan of her own?
Shimotsuma Monogatari, otherwise known as Kamikaze Girls
I adore Momoko and Ichigo's friendship. Although they're so different, their friendship doesn't change their characters, but rather deepens them: Ichigo remains a tough biker chick, and Momoko is always and forever obsessed with Rococo, but they realize that these simple definitions don't have to define them entirely. I lean toward gen with these two, but if a femmeslash story begs to be told, go for it.
I would totally love to see them fight crime. Preferably with Momoko still in her frilly Lolita dresses. How could this not be awesome? I'd love to see them in any kind of adventure, no matter how minor. Momoko and Ichigo hitchhike! Momoko and Ichigo go to New York City! (Or any city!) Momoko and Ichigo attempt to cook dinner!
Wake Up Sid
I love Aisha. I love Sid. If you write about them vacuuming their apartment together, I will probably love it. I'd love to see Sid meet Aisha's family, or Sid and Aisha on assignment together for Mumbai Beat, or Sid and Aisha on their first real date. Anything Sid and Aisha!
Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi, otherwise known as Spirited Away
I've always wondered what's at the rest of the stops on the train Chihiro took to Zeniba's house. Maybe sometime Chihiro stumbles back in the spirit world and finds out? And maybe or maybe not meets Haku again?
Or! If you love Miyazaki movies as much as I do! Perhaps a crossover with My Neighbor Totoro or Ponyo. Imagine Chihiro having adventures with Mei and Satsuki, or recognizing Ponyo for what she is when they meet in the everyday world!
