Hello, my friends! I come bearing Yuletide recs!
First, of course, the story written for me by my lovely author: in this shining night with sky made of shadows round, a Bright Star fic about poor Charles Brown and his tragically unrequited feelings for both Fanny Brawne and John Keats.
Second, a story which has already been recced to hell and back, but I must include it for it is AWESOME: a Hark, a Vagrant! Bronte fic, I Am Acton Bell's Metaphorical Manhood, about Anne Bronte dealing with her sisters' epic emo. A quote from Charlotte: “Don’t be ridiculous,” Charlotte snaps. “I won’t accept anyone short of a convicted felon.”
Third, No Reservations: Narnia, which is - yes - a No Reservations/Narnia crossover! (This has been a great year for crossovers.) I haven't seen No Reservations, but apparently it involves eating weird but surprisingly tasty food in exotic places. Exotic places like Narnia, where the locals will give you toffee apple brandy, rainbow fish called pavender, and roast duck with pomegranate sauce. This fic made me hungry.
And finally, Catherine's Fairy-Tale. A giant beanstalk grows in Catherine Tilney (nee Morland, of Northanger Abbey)'s front yard. The Austen voice is spot on - quite a feat, considering the story involves a giant beanstalk! - and Catherine gets a bit of the adventure she's always wanted.
Happy reading!
