Dear Yuletide Author
Nov. 15th, 2010 11:45 pmWelcome, Yuletide Author!
Thanks so much for writing this fic for me! I’m so excited about Yuletide; it’s one of my favorite parts of the holidays, and I’m sure I’ll love whatever you write for me.
However, if you want a little more guidance than that, I’ve made some helpful lists.
Things I like
• Witty dialogue
• Angst leavened by humor, or humor leavened by angst
• Characters who love each other, even if they can’t love each other in the right way to be together
• Bittersweet or happy endings.
• A sense of setting or atmosphere; I like to be able to feel the places where the characters are.
Things I dislike:
• Character bashing.
• Character death. (Obviously I’ll make an exception for Keats.)
I'm also chill with gen, het, slash, and femslash, although I'm interested in the emotional twists of the relationship rather than the sex - I don't want anything more than PG-13.
Fandom 1: Bright Star
Charles Armitage Brown
When I watched Bright Star I felt so bad for Charles Brown, living in the background of this epic love story between a woman he dislikes but has a crush on and a man he adores. (It's up to you whether that adoration is slashy or platonic.) How does he deal with his unrequited feelings?
Basically, I want Brown to have space to wallow in his angst a bit, instead of being always in the background of someone else’s story.
My review of the movie is here if you want more specifics what I thought about it. I really love the sense of setting in the movie, the rich, textured feeling of place.
Fandom 2: Baby-Sitters Club
Claudia Kishi/Ashley Wyeth
Claudia and Ashley become friends again! And discuss art! Or go painting in the park or at the zoo. Or just have coffee together. Basically I just want to explore their relationship, see them getting to know each other better.
I'd love either Claudia & Ashley BFFs or Claudia/Ashley femslash. And I love all the other BSC members, so cameos are great fun.
I was really sad that Ashley never showed up in any of the other BSC books. I thought she really understood Claudia in a way that the other BSC members, wonderful though they are, couldn’t because they weren’t artists.
Also, I love art history, so if they end up geeking out about the Impressionists or Vincent Van Gogh or Japanese art (I know nothing about Japanese art, so if you do go for it!), I might just die of happiness.
Fandom 3: Paper Towns
Margo Roth Spiegelman
Oh man, how much do I love Margo Roth Spiegelman? A LOT. I would love a story about her further adventures after the end of the book - anything from wacky hijinks to a bittersweet exploration of her flaws (her wanderlust; her selfishness). Cameos from any of the other characters are a plus!
I’d LOVE to see Margo in the city. She was headed toward New York at the end of the book, but if you know some other city better than New York by all means use that one! You know she’s going to go all the way around the world before she’s done.
