Bone China
May. 30th, 2010 12:49 amApparently, Creative Minds 'Mimic Schizophrenia'.
Experts, apparently, "suspect a continuum" between the two.

My room has been infernally hot for the last week and a half. I live on the fourth and top floor of an ancient and un-air-conditioned building, and last Tuesday the temperature on the floor drifted above a hundred degrees. (It is now, praise the Lord and pass the ceiling fans, comfortably back in the high eighties.)
So I was already cranky and tired and having difficulty concentrating on anything except the process of finding the most nappable couch on campus. (It's in Strange Commons in Main Hall, btw. The room is large and old and cool and dim, and the couch is soft and pillow-laden and just barely long enough for me.)
But then - last week Physical Plant installed an air-conditioner. The building is so old, however, that it's evidently only possible to cool the first and second floors - the floors full of office workers - who, I don't mean to begrudge them their comforts, but they do not sleep here.
Seething will only make me feel hotter. Seething will only make me feel hotter. Seething will only summon up the burning fires of Hell which will make me feel hotter.
(Personally, I think Physical Plant means to melt us all into bone china and sell us as novelty items to kitsch collectors. I do not approve of this ignonimous end.)

Date: 2010-05-30 05:50 pm (UTC)It might - once the kilning process was over - be very soothing to be a teacup. Only for a few days, though. Then I think I would get bored and be happy to be made human again.

(However, the temperature is supposed to drop to a high of 65 Wednesday, which should make the dorm more livable.)

Date: 2010-05-30 03:15 pm (UTC)The very cool thing is, against all those stark, blocky edifices the artwork really shines. And there is ALWAYS some sort of artwork on display, both indoors and out. When my daughter was a freshman, the outdoor art display was hammocks. Yup. Hammocks. Red ones strung so artistically in the commons that, when standing back to look at it, appeared as if it were sculpture. And yet the kids were encouraged to lounge in them. The great thing was, they were never vandalized by anything but Mother Nature.
It's a great, great school. My daughter got a marvelous education, because she really put in the work. Graduated with 2 1/2 degrees (Creative Writing, History with a minor in Jewish studies, and the half being Literature, because they'd never given anyone three degrees at once before, so they told her she'd have to come back and take one more class even though creditwise, she'd already earned it!) And now this has devoled into mombraggery, so I'll sign out. :)
