William the Lovechild
May. 21st, 2010 11:19 amIn Historiography the conversation drifted, as it does, to William the Conqueror.
"Except," said my professor, "before 1066, you really have to call him William the Bastard, because he hadn't conquered anything yet."
"But that totally prejudices people against him," said Mari (whose name is pronounced the Japanese way, although the bearer is not Japanese).
"William the Lovechild?" Richard suggested.
"But that's so...sixties," I said.
My professor lit up. He lifted his hand - "William the Lovechild and the British Invasion!"

My Historiography professor also writes books about Harry Potter and Alchemy, and keeps feminist bumper stickers on the walls of his office, and writes snarky academic articles about the witchcraft and the Reformation. You guys, I may want to be him when I grow up.
