One thing I really like about Virginia Woolf's novels is that (like, actually, The Lord of the Rings) every word in her novels is considered, so it's actually worth reading every word. I still remember reading The Waves over a week of evenings, when normally a novel that length would take me less than a couple of hours, if I wasn't in a hurry.
