I mean it's also possible that Mundt will turn up again in a later book. Or I somehow managed to overlook mention of him in the books I just read? (Although I think I would have screamed "FUCK YOU MUNDT" at the top of my lungs.) But there is also something incredibly Le Carre about the idea that they went to all this trouble to save him and then he became worthless as an intelligence asset and/or died of a sudden heart attack, so it was All For Naught.
