I understand why people find the ending frustrating - that said as someone who did grow up without knowing what wider fandom thought about it (or that Will/Bran would be the OTP!) I don't remember being that mad? So much forgetting happens throughout the books so it's part of the pattern, and I can always tell myself it's not permanent...
