My candle burns at both ends
it will not last the night;
but ah, my foes, and oh, my friends,
it makes a lovely light.

-Edna St. Vincent Millay

This is a very catchy poem - I memorized it accidentally - but now I started thinking about the mechanics of burning a candle at both ends, and its bothering me. Is there a special sideways candle holder that holds the candle in the middle so both ends can be lit? Or is the candle suspended in midair, revolving slowly on the end of a piece of twine and singeing the poet’s hair as it turns?

On a completely different note: I just found the bestest best site: Book Shelf Porn, which is five million photos of beautiful, beautiful bookshelves.

Well, most of them are beautiful. There is one which is a pile of books festooned with Christmas lights, which surely makes it difficult to actually take them out and read.
