Bramble watercolor
Oct. 11th, 2024 08:16 amBy popular demand (well, okay, a single request, but I'm sure you were all thinking it), the Bramble watercolor!

He appears to be sitting in front of a French flag. This was in fact an attempt at drawing in the window and the windowframe, but the French flag works too, as Bramble's motto probably is in fact "Liberte, egalite, fraternite!"

Date: 2024-10-11 04:50 pm (UTC)Unrelated to cat pictures, you mentioned over in eroticanons that short romance is having a moment on Amazon, and I had a couple of questions. How short are we talking? 5K, 10K, 20K? And what prices are people charging? 99 cents or $2.99?
I may have an idea for a Christmas story about two secret agents (one Soviet, one American) with a long-running rivalry who run into each other during a giant Christmas house party in a French chateau near the end of the Cold War...

Date: 2024-10-11 09:26 pm (UTC)This is basically just osmosis from hanging around groups on Facebook, so grain of salt, etc, but it looks like it's more on the longer end. In Amazon's short reads categories, it seems like the 1 hour, 90 minute, and 2 hour categories are getting the most romance play (maybe just because it's hard to develop a complete romance in anything shorter than that) - so this translates to roughly 10K-28K according to my off-the-top-of-my-head math.
Amazon categorizes short reads by page count, because of course they do. My rough estimate for word count is around 280 words per Amazon page, and so this is basically what you're dealing with for short reads:
One hour (33-43 pages) - 9K-12K (roughly)
90 minutes (44-64 pages) - 12K-18K
Two hours or more (65-100 pages) - 18K-28K
.... with romance especially concentrated in the latter two categories. But I think shorter would also work, especially for a Christmas book.
I tend to see most people doing $2.99, especially at the longer end of things. There are definitely still $0.99 books, especially in the 1-hour and shorter categories, but I think $2.99 is a pretty solidly accepted price point now.
I hope this helps!

Date: 2024-10-12 07:50 pm (UTC)His ears are so alert because I had to keep whispering his name to get him to look at me again. "Bramble. Bramble," I would whisper, and his ears perked up and he'd turn toward me, and then I'd get to drawing and he would rest his head again...
I love it when cats sit with a sticky-out paw. He's beauty, he's grace, he's sticking out a paw for no reason.
