Honeytrap

A couple of you (kore?) expressed an interest in Honeytrap back when I first posted about it (this is the book about the sulky Soviet spy assigned to honeytrap an American agent. Inconvenient Feelings result), and I've started posting some bits to Tumblr, so I thought I would link that here.

An introductory chapter. FBI special agent and disaster bisexual Daniel Hawthorne is assigned to work with a Soviet agent on the grounds that the Soviets are famously prudish so even YOU can't fuck this one up, Daniel, pun 100% intended.

A gunshot wound! Hurt/comfort! That feeling when you really WANT to hold someone close and make the pain stop hurting but a) that's not how pain works and b) you can't hold them in the first place so even if (a) wasn't true, it would be useless.

I am not convinced that tumblr is the best venue for posting this project (it's not great for long form text) but unfortunately the other options are (a) here on Dreamwidth, which will have a definitively smaller audience, and (b) Archive of Our Own, which would probably be ideal except that I can't link my Ko-Fi account there.

You can link to your wobsite or tumblr where you can have a ko-fi?

I think I need to take the story down from AO3 when I do finish it & put it on Amazon, which is also a drawback, so I'm not sure about it.

On the other hand, the AO3 interface is MUCH friendlier to commenting than Tumblr, so there's def. less of a "IS ANYBODY OUT THERE?" effect when you post there. If someone is out there, they'll let you know! So there is no perfect solution.

hmm... maybe post on both AO3 and tumblr, with a link to AO3 on the tumblr? And you can always post an update when you're pulling it from AO3, telling people to find you on your wobsite?

I'll have to think about this a bit more. I kind of hate the thought of putting something on AO3 and then pulling it, especially when it's not the whole story but just snippets - it feels like giving a present and then taking it back.

Gennady wants a CIGARETTE and VODKA and is all 'WASTEFUL to throw away my undershirt....okay yeah maybe too much blood' and poor Daniel is just like let me give you my soft flannel pajama top and tend you and I will sleep on the floor by your bed and OH, MY HEART

(sorry for being all Dramatic but really, I would buy this in hardcover)

I mean honestly Dramatic is pretty much the emotional tone for the entire story so... really that's pretty fitting!

Daniel really just wants to take care of Gennady and he keeps bumping up against the fact that in order to do this he would need to be able to protect him from the entire Soviet Union.

WELL FIRST OF ALL there is definitely going to be more, even if you do nothing at all (or just leave copious comments; I'm going to continue linking everything here on DW because Tumblr's reply feature is so sad), BUT if you would like to use other methods of encouragement -

Mr. Gilman's professional pride is offended. Not that the FBI wanted to assassinate Khrushchev, but if they had wanted to, they would have done away better job!

It will be! Eventually! ...once I've finished it. And it seems like it's going to be pretty long, so that may be a while.
