Count of Monte Cristo: Chapter 53

For various reasons I haven't gotten very far in The Count of Monte Cristo this week, so there isn't much to report...

Oh! Except that I think I may have met a prospective Runaway Lesbian, which is of course what we all read Monte Cristo for. In one brief chapter, Danglars' daughter Eugenie has been repeatedly compared to Diana the Huntress; she utterly ignores the Count himself to gaze at the beautiful woman at his side; and also she has a boon companion, whose name escapes me at this moment, who may become a singer on the stage.

Well obviously an actress is not a fit companion for the daughter of Danglars', so if that happens clearly Eugenie will have to run away. Ta-da! I like this theory very much.

If you spot a runaway lesbian, they aren't running away hard enough.

;-D

So there will in fact be more runaway lesbians? Are there just lesbians running away all over this book?

I suppose this question is a spoiler.

My comment was not being a spoiler. I can't possibly comment further. ;-p

Haha, that's one of my favorite parts. Everyone is falling over themselves about how mysterious and fascinating the Count is, and Eugenie is just like "Yeah, I guess he's pretty pasty. Anyway, who's that hot chick with him?"

Eugenie doesn't give a shit and it's kind of great. You remain immune to the count's charms, Eugenie! Someone has to be!
