It's a very different aesthetic than Gennady and Daniel - really the only similarity is the one of the characters is Russian. But The Goldfinch is a huge book and reading it is a big time investment, so despite my love of Boris I would actually hesitate to recommend it on a general level because... there's so much non-Boris.
Possibly it's like Giri/Haji that way. There's this one part that's really good, and the rest of it is less compelling (although not eyeroll-inducing, like Giri/Haji, but still, a lot of stuff to wade through for the good part).
