Winter Tea Party

We had some extra heavy cream left over, so I decided to try a new scone recipe - or rather an old scone recipe; my aunt's cream scone recipe, in fact. No butter, just flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and heavy cream, and you get tall and fluffy scones.

Also my roommate has an awesome wintery tea set. (The design is actual gray flowers, not snowflakes, but hey! Same diff.)

That looks so absolutely charming! Tea! Scones! Candles! The lovely old-fashioned wooden table! What a great photo.

It was full of charm! I must admit we have never yet used the candles, but someday we will have a tea party worthy of them/a power outage, and then we will use them and it will be the most charming thing ever.

Ooh, care to share the proportions for the scones? I'd like to try to make them!

(The tea set is beautiful)

Here's my aunt's recipe for the scones:

Cream Scones

Preheat oven to 400 degrees

Mix together:

2 c all purpose flour
3 T sugar
2 t baking powder
1/2 t salt

Add and stir well:

1/2 c dried fruit cut up the size of currants if desired

Make a well in the dry ingredients and pour in...

1 1/3 c heavy cream

Stir until everything is moistened and a soft dough is formed.
Scrape dough onto a lightly floured counter and knead a few times, shaping it into a fat log about 8" long.
Cut into 2 pieces, shape each piece into a smooth disk about 1" thick.
With sharp knife or bench scraper, cut each disk into four pieces.

Arrange the 8 scones on the baking sheet, leaving as much room as possible between them.
Brush with milk.
Sprinkle with fabulous, crunchy sugar....it has a name...I couldn't find it when I ran out, and have used large "grain" Raw Sugar since then.

Place in the oven and bake for 7 minutes.

Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake 15 minutes longer.

I made them! They were delicious--what a great recipe! Thank you so much for sharing.

Yay! I'm glad you enjoyed them. The first time I had them was at a simply wonderful tea party my aunt and I had back when I lived in Minnesota, so they hold fond memories for me.
