Fic: The Unlikely Traitor

And the last chapter of The Unlikely Traitor is up! I figured it would be about 14,000 words and it is, quoth AO3, 14,617, so I am calling that a win. It is the longest story I have written that was any good!

And I think it is pretty good, even if the structure is a little lopsided. I always think the structure in my longer pieces is lopsided. In this case, it's because the denouement takes up...um...the last three chapters of the fic or so. Everyone has a lot of issues to work out! It did not quite occur to me how traumatizing this plot was going to be for all the characters.

But lopsided or not, this has been an absolute blast to write! I don't have any immediate plans for more Samavia stories (though someday, I may write "Samavia gets invaded and Marco and the Rat end up in the dungeon and possibly escape?"). But I am super-excited by the idea of writing more long fic in general!

I already have two planned: the Eagle of the Ninth OT3 (though actually I don't quite have an outline for that. Must brainstorm. I have discovered that if I go into a long story without an outline, it almost inevitably grinds to a halt) and also a Borgias fic, where Lucrezia saves Cesare from his vampire lover who lives in the catacombs of Rome.

(And yes, that fic is designed entirely around awesome visuals. Cross-dressing Lucrezia with sword! Pallid Cesare, unconscious on a wine-red bed, dressed all in black! A vampire gliding from the shadowy catacombs!)

I am not sure how these plans for writing longer stories will dovetail with hc_bingo, but I daresay it will all work out.

I HAVE ENJOYED THIS SO MUCH, and I really hope you do write more at some point!

I will write other things! Just maybe not in Samavia for a while.

I have this hc_bingo card I need to do something with...probably I will make a brainstorming post with that. I kind of want to write a Disney fic, but we'll see...I'd like o write Naveen/Tiana/Charlotte, but I am just not sure how to make that happen...

UGH NAVEEN/TIANA/CHARLOTTE IS EVERYTHING I NEVER KNEW I WANTED.

YOU CAN HELP ME BRAINSTORM.

Seriously, I just recently rewatched this movie with the thought of writing fic for them...only I don't know what to write! It is so frustrating!

It's just that the movie brings up so many possible issues - race is the obvious one, but also if Tiana and Charlotte realize that their relationship is a little closer than friendship normally is, that could be a thing...and how do you even deal with an OT3 in the twenties...?

On the other hand, the movie just kind of magnificently ignored everything that got in the way, so maybe I can just write in alternative New Orleans too.

I think magnificently ignoring is completely and extremely legit, to be honest. I don't know. I think your main focus should be Charlotte's AMAZINGNESS, though.

My favorite is scenes like when she's pounding on the church doors roaring "YOUR BLUSHIN' BRIDE IS WAITIN' FOR YOU!" The contrast between her words and her volume! Always fun.

Actually, I could totally see Charlotte pursuing Tiana and Naveen. At first they are v. confused, and then they are like, "Well, she is pretty amazing."

Very very belatedly, that is my favourite scene as well, omg. Also the one where she's a complete mess and then Naveen arrives and she makes herself perfect again. She's the BEST.

Yes, my brain thoroughly agrees with your brain. I'm afraid you might be getting art...

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That would be amazingly amazing. The show is so beautiful, it deserves all the art!

I'm still kind of meaning to write a story to go with your Sybil & Branson & Gwen picture, too. Because Sybil and Branson and Gwen love!

[identity profile] motetus.livejournal.com 2013-06-30 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, Sybil/Branson/Gwen fic is an excellent idea and has my full support. I shall wallow in it and forget all the terrible things that happened to their characters after season 1!

Also, if you don't come up with an awesome title for this cross-dressing drawing, I fear it's going to end up as Lucrezia Borgia the Vampire Slayer...

[identity profile] osprey-archer.livejournal.com 2013-07-01 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
I am not sure if Lucrezia will actually end up slaying the vampire! Although it would be more awesome if she did, so probably.

Right now I'm thinking of calling it "Dolce Far Niente," because that is how Cesare explains the appeal of a vampire bite: it helps him relax, it lets him do nothing and feel carefree.

The Unlikely Traitor was super good! I went searching for the Lost Prince unofficial sequels and nobody could be more surprised or delighted than me to have actually found one. Oh, poor Rat, in the book and in the story, always the smartest dude in the room.

I'm glad you liked it! The Rat and his brain make plotting super easy, because clearly he is the king of bizarre plots and of course Marco can't keep up.
