More Borgias
OMG Lucrezia and Giulia and Vanozza teamed up to take on the Curia to help the poor of Rome! Let’s be real, I would have been happy if the entirety of season two focused on this subplot.
Especially given that then we wouldn’t have had to watch Micheletto and Cesare torture the poor captured French troops. Honestly, I’m getting tired of Micheletto, all his scenes are exactly the same: Micheletto gets information out of someone and then strangles/stabs/drowns them. At least they’re switching up the modes of assassination?
Except in episode 5 he gets a lover, but I’m pretty sure we’re going back to the Murder Train after this. Unless of course Micheletto’s gay lover is a sign that he and Cesare are going to start banging (“Micheletto is in love with Cesare” would actually explain a lot about why Micheletto is so damn loyal), because, let’s face it, Cesare bangs people about as often as Micheletto assassinates them.
BUT SPEAKING OF ASSASSINATION. Cesare killing Rapey Sforza! I was totally looking forward to this, but actually it was pretty scarring watching his stab Sforza again - and again - and again - okay, Cesare, you can stop now, ew.
I kind of think all this is leading to Caterina Sforza going up against the might of Rome in hopes of VENGEANCE and then coming to a bad end, which is too bad, because I like her almost as much as Lucrezia and Giulia and Vanozza. Even if she is terrifying and flirted with the French king by suggesting they should bathe in the Borgia pope’s blood together. Pretty sure she actually would have gone through with that, too.
Have I mentioned that the Borgias has all the best female characters? Lucrezia is still the most awesomest, but - Giulia Farnese! Vanozza! Caterina Sforza! If only Sancia got something to do aside from have sex with Juan, I daresay she would be wonderful too.
Still kind of scarred from the time that Juan and Sancia had sex on Neapolitan king’s “Last Supper with taxidermied corpses”. But you have to think that someone willing to do that must have great reserves of badassery. Bring her into the fold, Borgia women!

So I’m just about done with season 2 of the Borgias, in need of a new series...and guess which series Netflix just got! Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries!
Which

Possibly I should get, like, champagne to drink while I’m watching Miss Fisher's. I feel like a twenties series kind of deserves alcohol. Even if it is in Australia, where presumably they did not have Prohibition.

But every corrupt cardinal needs a hit man!

Well, he did promise his sister Sforza's heart on a plate if he was ungallant, and Sforza was more than ungallant, lol. But Cesare, you have some issues.

I bet she totally would have.

NGL, I was seeing the Micheletto/Cesare back in S1. That whipping scene!
Anyway, I think Phryne's drink would be gin? Or a gin martini. Prohibition had just ended when the series starts, but bits of Melbourne are dry up to this day. I don't recall very much about alcohol in the series, though--it was mostly more cocaine and abortion and PTSDy war vets.

And, ha, no, there was no Prohibition in Australia... Alcohol certainly gets very matter-of-factly consumed in the series, I think (I wasn't really paying attention that).

Cesare clearly feels a lot of RAGE against Sforza. Which is fair, because Sforza was super mean to Lucrezia. I'm pretty excited to see how Lucrezia reacts to the knife bathed in Sforza's blood.

I'm trying to strike a balance here between "thematically appropriate drinks" and "drinks I actually like and won't have to by all the ingredients for gin and tonic for."

It would be nice if we got to see anything about Sancia after that - I don't think either she or Joffre ever appear again after that! Even Rodrigo in 3.2 has forgotten how many sons he has - it's bizarre how they've been written out. :/

Maybe Sancia and Joffre went away to Naples or something. Presumably she has some land there.
