I loved Strawberry Girl! My dad read it because I talked to him about it, and his family were "Okies" on the other side of the country about a decade earlier, but he said a lot of the details about rural life rang true to him. He also said picking and preserving fruit (lemons, oranges, peaches) back then was the worst job he ever had, including the Army.
