I remember reading this book aloud to my first girlfriend in high school, and when I read this part, she said with evident pleasure, "Ah, so she got the 'you've knocked up your girlfriend and you've got to take responsibility for your family now' speech."

In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have been surprised when she came out as trans a few years later XD
