I'm assuming that this is partly sheer gentlemanliness, but also because he prefers to see Biggles looking snappy in his own uniform rather than absurd in a footman's borrowed clothes, as amusing as the alternate get-up is. He gets to see Biggles so rarely! Might as well see him at his best!
