It's clear that she knows people will be reading this book for the Stalin stuff, and there certainly is plenty of Stalin stuff, but she also wants to make it absolutely clear that in HER life story, Stalin is only one of many characters and NOT the most important one. That is Alexandra Andreevna, living proof that good may not triumph over evil, but it can outlast it.
