I remember the first time I read this one I kept waiting for Gen to get out of getting his hand cut off - or, later on, for him to get it back somehow. Now that I'm older I'm glad he didn't, as it neatly avoids an unfortunate fantasy trope of "disabled person cured by magic". Instead he learns to steal even bigger and better things with only one hand.

Also YEAH that scene at the end with the goddesses is just, OOF, it packs such a punch.
