I don't want to browbeat the poor modern day readers but it can be hard to know if you're really getting the point across if you don't actually have a character say in so many words "I DON'T MEAN FRIEND PLATONICALLY AND I'M NOT SURE WHY YOU THINK THAT'S AN INHERENT PART OF THE DEFINITION."
