Aleksievich collects oral histories, so not everything has that kind of literary savor/psychological perspicacity, but the breadth of different voices in one book is fascinating in itself. She also has one about women's experiences during World War II that I want to read... once I've had some time to recover from Secondhand Time, maybe!

The Corfu trilogy is SUCH a delight. The secondary characters in The Drunken Forest were fun too, but probably no one is ever going to top Larry Durrell on the scale of "I would hate to live with him, but I LOVE reading about him!"
