I rarely reread a mystery novel, so it's not surprising to hear that about the Elizabeth Peters books. I'm not sure why; a good mystery novel can have just as good character work as any other kind of book, after all. Maybe it's because it's harder to dip in and out of a mystery at random while rereading.
