Harve and Margot Zemach's Duffy and the Devil, the 1974 Caldecott winner, is another totally charming book.

I haven't seen this book since elementary school! I still have vivid pictures of the little devil and the master wearing nothing but a strategically placed hat after all the devil's knitting has vanished in smoke. Thank you for reminding me of it.
