Oh...I kind of do think the other books in the Melendy series are marvelous! There's a post all about it in my journal at http://nnozomi.livejournal.com/12416.html if you're interested, so I won't go into detail here, but I do recommend going on with them if you have a chance. I like Betsy-Tacy too, but more as a turn-of-the-century slice of life than out of deep affection for the characters, although it's surprising what has stayed with me--at certain ceremonies I've found myself quoting Mr. Ray "all that standing up and sitting down, standing up and sitting down," for instance.
