The other issue with anorexia is that adopting the physical symptoms often actually creates the mental symptoms. So young teenagers will sometimes try to model themselves off an anorexic memoirist because anorexia seems glamorous or interesting or what have you (this is how Osgood got anorexia), and as they cut farther and farther back on food, the malnutrition messes with their brain chemistry so they develop body image issues, get depressed, etc.
