What you say about the distinction between aspirational and relatable heroines is very pointful; I've thought about this too (and like you, recognize that the two aren't necessarily mutually exclusive by any means, though the aspirational figures do tend to face more extreme trials).
You talk about undertow figures, too: for me, I think these are the ones whose devotion to something is ultimately self-destructive to no real purpose. (You're probably thinking, well what's the appeal of those people--it has to do with what it is they're devoted to, sometimes, and sometimes it's just the appeal of the extremity of their way of life. Mostly I can avoid idolizing such folks, now, but sometimes I feel myself coming under their sway, even now.)
