It was a "I hate all the individual pieces of this book yet find the whole strangely compelling" kind of enjoyment, Mary protests! Protests a little bit too much, perhaps.
Lydia and Mary Try to Pick a Movie to Watch Together would kind of hilarious, because I bet their tastes don't match at all. Mary is a Jane Eyre rather than Jane Austen girl. Lydia isn't much for period drama. Also not a big fan of romance - but then Mary would never admit she likes that anyway, except maaaybe in a classic movie. But Lydia refuses to watch anything black and white...
Possibly they end up watching Disney. Mary points out all the moments of intentional and unintentional darkness, and Lydia is like "Shut up and sing along! Oh, oh, let's go to Disneyland tomorrow!"
