Except I don't think that the episode with Lisa is at all indicative of Ianto having "bad character." If anything, it's a decidedly positive character trait that was stretched to horrifying proportions by the nature of the tragedy. I have major issues with "Cyberwoman," but I think that the most reasonable way to reconcile the Ianto we see before and after (as well as what we know about the fall of Torchwood Tower) is to approach it from the understanding that Lisa was Ianto's way of controlling the situation. To further the analysis, I have to figure that everything he does for the months after (infiltrating Torchwood Cardiff, etc) is a manifestation of PTSD as much as his love for Lisa. Well, that's the way I see it.

On your side, though, I can definitely see how Jack is more drawn to the darker characters in his life. Why he flirts with Gwen, but is involved with Ianto, for example. It's certainly not because he can't have her.

Or maybe Jack gravitates toward people with bad character because of his history with good people. Rose was "worth dying for" by his own admission--back when that meant something--and the Doctor is certainly a heroic character in Jack's story, but they were also the ones who showed him that he could be something better then abandoned him all damaged and confused.

Is it wrong that my comments in your journal are longer than my actual posts in mine? :)
