(Personally, I would probably warn for child abuse: starving a kid into submission is abuse, even if Romans might not have thought it was.)

This is a much darker take than I was initially imagining when I read the book, but I can definitely see it--you've done a great job making Valaria's motives understandable, even though her methods are appalling. (Also I think you need to write her backstory.)
