In Gilman's memoir I was shocked to find her suddenly going in for pyramids to keep her food from spoiling.

I would never have guessed that she was serious about it from the scene in The Tightrope Walker (1979) in which the romantic hero is discovered meditating under a collapsible pyramid in his apartment. The heroine is nonplussed and so was I the reader.
