Emily assumes the dog is Miss Royal's because it's in the yard in front of Miss Royal's aunt's house, but in fact it's not Miss Royal's dog either. It turns out that it's a badly behaved neighbor dog that Miss Royal in her short visit hasn't met yet, hence the fact that she thinks Emily simply brought along her disastrously behaved pet.
